How Can College Students Make Money Without a Job
University is busy. All of your work and lessons to attend don’t leave much room for anything else with your social aspects. However, it can also be expensive. You’re lucky if you get a student loan you can live from, so what other options do you have? Many students decide to apply for jobs while they’re at university, but not everybody can make that work.
We have some ideas that are far more suited to your university lifestyle. Our suggestions mean that you can work on your own schedule rather than being tied down to a job you have to attend every week. Sometimes with all your assignments, it’s just not possible. By doing alternative work, you can prioritise university. That being said, a lot of these jobs won’t earn you quite as much as a part-time job, but it’s still a lot better than earning nothing. Also, if you put the time and effort in, you might be able to make much more than you’d expect! Here’s what we suggest:
Survey’s
You’ve probably heard before that you can make money from completing surveys, but did you really believe it? Well, you should, because it’s a great and quick way for students to get a little extra cash! Websites like Lifepoints, Survey Junkie and InboxPounds are just a few of the websites that will pay you to complete a selection of forms. You can get up to £3/$5 for some surveys, so it’s worth doing, and they don’t take long at all! You can quickly complete these throughout your day when you have spare time, and it’ll pay off.
Watch videos
Yep, not only will InboxPounds pay you for completing surveys, but they will also pay you for watching videos. This is another way to make a few pounds, and just like with surveys, they’re really quick and easy. Swagbucks is another very popular company that will pay you to watch videos and even sometimes play games. You can do this perfectly from the comfort of your own home. What could be better?
Sell your textbooks
After you’ve finished with them, do you really need your textbooks? The answer is probably no, but it’s always good to ask your tutors first and see what they think. If you don’t need them, selling them online can always be a good idea. Textbooks are expensive, and it’s likely they took a good chunk of your money when you bought them. Students are always looking to save money, so someone out there will be looking to buy the exact textbooks you’ve used. Put them up for a little less than you bought them for and make some of that money back. It’s a great idea to post in groups based on your subject as it will attract people who are studying what you have learned. Don’t let them go to waste.
Become a tutor
Thankfully, you don’t have to apply for anything to be a tutor; it’s solely your own knowledge that you can sell. Many students need a tutor. They might be struggling with their work or just want to aim higher. If you’ve done well with your degree, someone out there will need your help. You can charge anything from 10 – 30 dollars/pounds an hour depending on your expertise, and it can be completely on your own time too. Unlike a job, you get to choose your hours and when you’re as busy as you are, that’s exactly what you need.
Sell your notes
Speaking of using your education, if you’re an avid note-taker, this could earn you some money! As mentioned, students sometimes need a bit of extra help, and there’s more than one way to find it. Websites like Nexus Notes and Stuvia are great for finding other students notes to help you with your work, and there’s no reason why you can’t put yours on there too! It is free to put up your notes, but they do take a cut of any profit you make. Alternatively, you could promote your notes on social media, although this might not attract the same attention. Either way, some money earned is better than none, and it makes it better if you’re earning while doing your usual note-taking. It looks like it’s time to start writing things down in class!
Download Depop
If you haven’t heard of Depop, where have you been? Probably the most popular app to sell your clothes on right now; people are selling everything and anything. If you have any clothes you really don’t need or like anymore, putting them on Depop is your best chance at getting rid of. Not only will it gain you money, but it’ll also make some space in your wardrobe. Some people even set up their own businesses through Depop, so if that’s something you’re interested in, you could give it a go. If fashion is your forte, this app is perfect but be careful, you might end up buying a few things while you’re there!
Review websites & apps
If you’re constantly online anyway, this is a super-easy way to earn some money. Reviewing can be one of the best ways to earn money while being at home, so it’s perfect to consider. You can review all sorts of products for money, but it gets even easier when you can do it from your own phone or laptop! Usertesting.com allows you to review both websites and apps, giving you around $10 (£6.50) for about 20 minutes of work. You could do this in the evening or whenever you have a short period free, but it doesn’t take long at all! The money will be sent via Paypal, so it’s ready and waiting for you. Check it out!
