The phenomena itself is not harmful as by retaining the gases such as CO2, methane etc it keeps the temperature of the earth suitable for the habitation. But over the years due to the increase anthropogenic activities these gases are released into the atmosphere in huge amount thereby exceeding the threshold limit causing excessive heating of the Earth and this effect eventually results in climate change

Green House gases: As Per the Kyoto protocol six gases are being classified as Greenhouse gases- Carbondioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), hydrofluorocarbons(HFCs), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Sulphurhexafluorides (SF6), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs). All these gases are being released into the atmosphere exponentially because of the increase deforestation for development, burning of fossil fuels for heat, transportation, electricity etc. The increase use of technology in today’s World is also one of the most potent contributor of green house gases. All these gases when present in the atmosphere traps the long wave heat returning from the earth to escape into the atmosphere causing scorching warming of the Earth which results in the normal functioning of the Earth’s Atmosphere.

IPCC’s new Report

The report which was released on August 9 has indicated that human activity is one of the main contributor of climate change and says that scientist have no doubt in claiming the fact that the warming of the planet since the last 1800s is caused by humans. The report has mentioned that the Global surface Temperature of the Earth has been increases by 1.09 degree Celsius c in compared to the pre-industrial period of the 1850 and 1900. The IPCC has thus reported the ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement of limiting the Earth temperature by 1.5 degree celsius may be breached by 2040 which is a cause of concern.

Summary

The climate change thus is a reality and it is the onus of every humans in the best of his/her potential to limit the activities that is contributing to the climate change. Also Following the report of IPCC experts have called out the organizations and the government of the country in general to take urgent steps to address the issue. There are already efforts from these parties to limit the release of the green house gases like the shift to clean energy, the switch to electric vehicles , rampant environmental protection programs etc. However considering of the present times that we live in and the unusual conditions in terms of natural disasters, new diseases, social security issues etc and also taking into consideration of the recent reports of the IPCC there is still a long way ahead to achieving the ambitious goals of zero carbon emission keeping the Earth temperature at 1.5 degree Celsius at pre industrial level and much has to be done and new ideas and innovative policies and strategy should be implemented to address the challenge along with ramping up the already existing tools and frameworks in place.
